Access and visibility types
The world Access Type controls who can discover an event, who can register, and whether players need a code or organisation membership. Change it from Worlds, select a world, View details, Settings, then the Details section.
Changing access type asks for confirmation because it can immediately affect registration and discoverability. After changing it, use Save changes at the bottom of the Settings form.
Open
Use Open when anyone should be able to find and register for the event during the registration period.
- The event can appear in public or discoverable event listings.
- Players still need registration to be open before they can register.
- Team events still use the team registration modal.
- If the event period has not started, registered players may see the event but not be able to access the map yet.
Open is best for public competitions, community events, and training sessions where you do not need to restrict who joins.
Invite Only
Use Invite Only when the event should not behave like a fully public listing and participants need an invite path.
Invite-only worlds can use:
- Personal invite links sent from the world Users tab.
- A shared event link or QR code if you distribute one.
- An optional Join access code on the Settings form.
The Join access code is not a team invite code. It lets a participant register for the event. A team invite code chooses which team they join.
Participants in an invite-only team event may need both:
- The event access code to register for the event.
- The team invite code to join the correct team.
Invite Only is best for private cohorts, classrooms, customer events, and controlled workshops where organisers distribute access deliberately.
Organisation Only
Use Organisation Only when only members of your organisation should be able to join.
- Players must belong to the organisation that owns the world.
- External users should be invited to the organisation first if they need access.
- Organisation role does not automatically decide the player's team.
- Team events still use team creation or team invite codes.
Organisation Only is best for internal training, staff events, and closed organisation exercises.
Workshop
Use Workshop when the event is designed for link-based play rather than the normal signed-in registration flow.
- Workshop worlds are usually distributed by link.
- They are useful for short sessions, demos, or guided rooms.
- Some normal registration and account assumptions may not apply.
- If you need team scoring, long-running leaderboards, or controlled registration, use Open, Invite Only, or Organisation Only instead.
Workshop is best for lightweight exercises where ease of entry matters more than account-based event management.
Common checks
- Registration dates still matter. If registration is closed, players cannot register even if the access type is correct.
- Event dates still matter. Players may be registered but unable to access the map until the event period starts.
- Team size limits still matter. A valid team invite code does not override a full team.
- Plan limits still matter. A world can hit participant or feature limits regardless of access type.
